About This Role:
The Compliance Director is a pivotal member of the Compliance department, tasked with driving highly impactful projects and tasks that drive progress against essential KPIs throughout the organization. This role requires a detail-oriented, analytical professional adept at handling complex Compliance-related activities and leading key regulatory initiatives.
Core Responsibilities:
- Manage key compliance operational functions, projects, and activities to directly support the company’s Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and larger compliance organization
- Identify and track the Compliance Department’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and other metrics reported to senior leadership or Board of Directors
- Partner with Finance to manage the Compliance Department’s annual budget/operating expenses, including third party spend, staffing, etc.
- Partner with Legal on federal and state regulatory requirements, including responding to subpoena or litigation requests, privacy and data compliance, materials for state exams, and overseeing the process for escheatment of funds to the states (where applicable)
- Partner with Procurement team during vendor selection, negotiations/contracting, onboarding, and related vendor management processes
- Oversee and manage all third party audits and assessments from banking partners, external auditors, regulators, and investors, including the annual AML Compliance Audit
- Partner with the AML Program Director to ensure operational effectiveness of AML-related projects and controls, including company training and vendor management
- Partner with Engineering and compliance stakeholders to lay out business requirements for compliance-related system enhancements, automation projects, and related requests
- Lead and represent compliance on large cross-functional projects (e.g., Enterprise Risk Management, Business Impact Analysis) and identify cross-department business impacts of project progress, decisions, and risks; this involves developing and maintaining comprehensive project and process documentation
- Stay knowledgeable about compliance laws and regulations (e.g., Data and Consumer Privacy, Cybersecurity, Financial Crime, Securities Laws, etc.), including current and future impacts on the company and cryptocurrency industry as a whole
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree, JD preferred
- 10+ years of experience in project management
- 10+ years of compliance experience related to vendor and contract management
- 10+ years partnering with engineering and technical teams
- 5+ years running audits, preferably compliance (security, AML, financial/SOX)
- Experience managing OPEX/corporate budgets
- Advanced experience with project management software and applications
- Ability to build strong working relationships
- Solid organizational skills and uncompromising attention to detail
- Experience leading progressively complex, cross-functional projects
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments
- Flexible thinker, able to learn new approaches and apply them in unanticipated ways
The starting pay for this role is USD$250,000.00 for all U.S. remote locations. The actual base pay will vary, and is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skill sets, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change.
