What you’ll do

• Design & build a unified data platform that ingests, indexes and serves insurance documents at scale (100 MB+ PDFs, multi-pass extraction, lineage tracking).
• Develop LLM orchestration & reliability tooling: self-eval pipelines, automated regression tests, prompt/version rollout, latency & cost dashboards.
• Invent novel extraction methods (tool-calling, chain-of-thought, retrieval-augmented reasoning) to boost accuracy on messy, heterogeneous documents.
• Mentor & unblock ML / solutions engineers, reviewing designs, pairing on thorny bugs, and leveling up LLM best practices.
• Triage production issues and drive root-cause analyses for extraction failures—owning SLAs that keep brokers productive.
• Partner with product & domain experts to scope new modules (e.g., claim triage, endorsement comparison) and translate insurance edge-cases into robust data models.
• Collaborate with founders on technical strategy, hiring, and the long-term roadmap for Fulcrum’s data foundation.

About you

• 4–6 yrs building ML or data platforms in production (senior / staff-level IC).
• Deep understanding of LLM pipelines: fine-tuning, RAG, evaluation, prompt management, cost/latency trade-offs.
• Proven track record of owning end-to-end systems—from architecture through deployment & monitoring.
• Strong software-engineering fundamentals (Python/TypeScript, cloud infra, modern data tooling).
• Pragmatic mindset: bias to ship, measure, iterate.
• Bonus: direct finetuning experience, prior work on document intelligence, or mentoring junior engineers.
• No formal management experience required—lead with technical excellence first.
