About the Opportunity ✍️

Join our MoonPay Compliance Team as our UK MLRO/International Compliance Director! In this role, you'll be a vital part of our Compliance leadership team, ensuring MoonPay operates in strict compliance with all legal, regulatory, and Group standards in the UK and across the globe, including related to Sanctions Compliance and anti-money laundering/combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).

You'll be the go-to person for regulators, law enforcement, and industry groups, as well as a key leader in the MoonPay global compliance and risk team. This is a key leadership role where you'll shape and refine our compliance processes to keep up with both global and local changes.

What you will do…

  • Part of the Global Compliance Leadership team

  • Act as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), responsible for the overall compliance program in the UK

  • Lead, develop, and manage the compliance strategy, ensuring it aligns with both UK and global regulatory frameworks, with a particular focus on crypto-specific challenges.

  • Serve as primary point of contact for UK and global regulatory bodies

  • Maintain and develop AML and compliance policies, procedures, and controls.

  • File Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) based upon escalations from investigative teams

  • Provide oversight and decisioning of high risk customers and KYC escalations

  • Coordinate and ensure completion of annual AML Independent Assessment

  • Ensure timely completion of any identified issues related to the International compliance program

  • Provide annual AML Training to the UK Board of Directors

  • Manage regular compliance audits, reporting findings to senior leadership and regulatory bodies as necessary

  • Stay up to date on relevant developments in crypto regulation, advising on necessary updates to company policies and procedures

  • Foster a culture of compliance and proactively identify potential risks.

About You 🙋

  • Proven experience as an MLRO or in a senior compliance role within the cryptocurrency or fintech sectors in the UK

  • In-depth knowledge of UK financial regulations, specifically those related to AML/ CTF an FinProm in cryptocurrency

  • Hands-on experience interacting with UK regulators and industry bodies

  • Experience managing non-UK compliance program (i.e., EEA, EMEA, or APAC)

  • Strong understanding of crypto-specific regulatory challenges, including emerging trends and regulatory changes

  • First-rate decision making skills, bias for action and sound judgment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to effectively balance multiple priorities and learn new tools quickly

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships

Preferred:

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ICA, CAMS, or equivalent).

  • Previous experience in a startup or rapidly scaling environment.

  • Legal background or advanced understanding of regulatory law within the financial services sector.
