When hiring, we look for candidates who can thrive in our culture of trust, feedback, and rapid growth. We believe that diversity and inclusivity are essential to our success, and we provide equal employment opportunities regardless of background or identity. Our opportunities support remote, hybrid, or onsite work at our offices in New York City, San Francisco, or Silicon Valley, and we're dedicated to creating an environment where all employees can do their best work and contribute to the growth of our platform.

OpenSea is the largest decentralized application on Ethereum by user traffic, serving millions of users every month. With immense foot-traffic comes infrastructural scale otherwise unseen in the Web3 space, and OpenSea is currently undertaking an ambitious rebuild of our core infrastructure to enable horizontal scaling to 10x the levels we see today and beyond — traffic we anticipate as the crypto space builds into another expansionary cycle. We’re looking for a seasoned infrastructure engineer to play a critical role in redesigning and operating our infrastructure to enable operational excellence, cost efficiency, and stellar reliability & uptime.

Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Management and Evolution: Operate our v1 and design / evolve v2 of a suite of critical engineering platform services across compute (Kubernetes), data at rest (Postgres, ScyllaDB, Mongo), data in transit (Kafka), and CI/CD, with a focus on high availability and cost efficiency across all services

  • Self-Serve Engineering: Enable the broader engineering team to operate independently with self-serve engineering platform services, reducing dependencies and hand-offs.

  • System Hardening: Enhance the resilience & security of production systems by maintaining uptime targets, implementing graceful degradation, and ensuring self-healing, automated recovery, and rigorous security best practices

  • Monitoring & Alerting: Architect and optimize a comprehensive monitoring and alerting system to proactively address potential issues as they emerge in both our existing and upcoming systems

  • Eng Team Acceleration: Accelerate the engineering team’s efforts to rebuild core infrastructure by establishing & role modeling clean, repeatable patterns for standing up reliable services in both development and production with paved paths for monitoring, reliability, and security

Desired Experience

  • Experience: At least 5+ years in software engineering with a focus on infrastructure

  • Demonstrable expertise in Terraform, AWS (including VPC and Transit Gateway), Kubernetes, and containerization technologies. Experience with multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters and service-mesh is desirable

  • Comfort with programming in one of either Kotlin, Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript

  • Experience with production system monitoring tools (e.g., DataDog, Prometheus) and performance tuning both traditional RDBMSs and NoSQL databases

  • Experience provisioning & tuning services related to streaming data such as Kafka, Flink or Kinesis

  • Familiarity or experience with blockchain tech not strictly required, but a strong genuine curiosity & enthusiasm for the technology is required

If you don't think you meet all of the criteria below but still are interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone who is excited to join the team.

The base salary for this full-time position, which spans across multiple internal levels depending on qualifications, ranges between $165,000 to $265,000 plus benefits & equity.
